August ranks as one of the more confusing months in terms of knowing “what to buy” because there are SO many supposed sales.
Before I reveal the best purchase you can make, it’s important to know what to avoid!
What’s included this week:
❌ Avoid Buying These Items In August
❌ iPhones: Apple and third party retailers will offer deals on previous iPhone models when the new iPhone is released this fall.
October and November are a good time to buy a last generation iPhone with the best incentives appearing during the Black Friday countdown..
❌ Appliances, Mattresses and Furniture: Quite simply put: appliances, mattress and indoor furniture are at their lowest prices of the year for Labor Day next month.
❌ Grills and Barbecues: Labor Day is the second best time of the year to score a grill or barbecue deal after July 4th. I would hold off if you can.
❌ Amazon Devices: With July’s Prime Day now a thing of the past and a second Prime-Day type sale rumored for October, any discount on an Echo, Blink, Ring or Fire TV right now is nowhere near what we’ll see later down the line.
✅ 5 Great Buys In August
✅ Patio Furniture: The only difference between the sales now and what we’ll see around Labor Day is better stock in the month of August and a few extra weeks for you to actually enjoy it before the weather turns.

✅ School and Office Supplies: The back to school sales run rampant the entire month of August which means top discounts for your office as well.
Walmart and the warehouse clubs seem to have the most aggressive deals right now although I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen at Dollar Tree and Aldi in certain categories.
✅ Summer Clothing, Shoes and Light Fall Attire: Anything tied to summer attire is on clearance right now and while some savings experts will advise you not to buy fall clothes right now, I disagree.
Retailers operate two months ahead of schedule so many of the lighter clothing items you’d wear in October and November are on sale right now and worth considering while you have many size and color options still available.
✅ Computers and Laptops: Outside of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this is the best time of the year to buy a laptop or desktop.
From entry-level to some of the more advanced models, the discounts are excellent.
