šŸ’° The Deal Guy Newsletter - Issue #31

Plus, Huge Retail News, Worst February Buys + Costco Clearance!

After taking some brief time off to be with my new baby daughter Vanessa, my weekly newsletter has resumed!

This week, Iā€™ll tackle how to ensure February is a frugal month with certain Presidentā€™s Day purchases to avoid alongside some top clearance warehouse club finds.

āœ… Top Things To Buy In February

šŸ›Œ Mattresses, Major Appliances and Furniture: With Presidentā€™s Day falling February 19th this year, appliances are on par with Black Friday pricing alongside new incentives tied to mattresses and indoor furniture on sale right now.

Winter Clothing: Winter as we know it is complete as far as retailers are concerned (despite the cold weather and snow blanketing many parts of the country right now). Clearance items are abundant so stock up now if there are any apparel items you desire.

Stores like Costco and Samā€™s Club are amazing places to find clearance right now

Higher-end Big Screen TV Deals: While Black Friday is the time to buy budget and fewer-featured TVā€™s at rock bottom prices, if you are searching for a top of the line OLED or something with a 120hz+ refresh rate, the days leading up to The Super Bowl are the very best if youā€™re planning on making a purchase!

Fitness Equipment: Youā€™ll still find several sales for fitness accessories and equipment with some New Yearā€™s promotions still in effect.

ā˜•ļø Big Changes Coming To Starbucks

While I still have difficulty stomaching the prices, any Starbucks Fan or those who visit for a special treat might be excited with some changes although one is particularly surprisingā€¦

  • The chain just announced that 30% of its food and beverage menu will get cut although itā€™s unclear just yet if any fan favorites are affected.

  • Customers who enjoy their drinks in-store can sip from ceramic mugs or reusable cups and even snag free refills on hot or iced brewed coffee and tea (no cold brew unfortunately).

  • The self-serve condiment bar is making a comeback which will please many.

  • Starbucks has reverted its ā€œopen to anyone policyā€ where seating and restrooms are now to be reserved for paying customers only.

āŒ Do NOT Buy These Things in February

šŸ§³ Luggage: Despite a few exceptions at warehouse clubs, stores understand luggage will be purchased now for spring break travel and the bulk of it is at full price. I would hold off until the end of March if you donā€™t need a suitcase right now.

šŸ‘š Spring Clothing: Your best deals drop in late March and early April as most spring stock is hitting store shelves right now at full price.

šŸŽ« Airfare: Prices are high and inflated right now. Unless you require airfare for a trip in the next 45 days, I would avoid purchasing until the post-Spring Break travel incentives return.

šŸšØ NEW Retail Info You NEED To Know!

Walmart has just launched SAME-DAY pharmacy delivery: Walmart has expanded its same-day pharmacy delivery service across 49 states, integrating medications, groceries, and general merchandise in a single order. Walmart+ members get free delivery, while others can choose paid options for scheduled or on-demand delivery.

Costco is switching back to Coke branded products: Costco plans to switch from Pepsi back to Coca-Cola products in its food courts by early 2025. If you remember, Costco switched from Coke to Pepsi back in 2013 and it upset a lot of shoppers. How do you feel about this? Let me know!
