5 Things NOT To Buy For Memorial Day

Memorial Day is known for big sales but not everything is actually a good deal. Here’s what I’m holding off purchasing for now:

🩳 Summer Clothing: Retailers are pushing full-price inventory. Clearance kicks in after the Fourth of July.

💻 Laptops and Tablets: With the exception of Desktops, wait for back-to-school deals starting in late June on Chromebooks and budget laptops. Gaming laptops drop mid-July and holiday quarter.

🪑 Patio Furniture: Memorial Day deals exist, but they get better closer to July 4th and are on clearance by Labor Day if you really can wait.

📺 TVs: You might see flashy banners suggesting price drops right now but other than a few scarce warehouse club TV deals, I would absolutely wait for the holiday quarter!

📦 Amazon Devices: While there are discounts to be found the absolute lowest prices of the year on anything with the word “Echo” or “Fire” in its product title drop to the lowest prices of the year for Prime Day which is typically mid-July (and less than 60 days away!).

✍🏼 SHARE YOUR SAVINGS!

Here are some recent subscriber submitted money-saving tips:

Damon G Wrote: You might consider reminding people to check their reward points. For example, with Chase rewards, you can use your reward points on Apple shopping and get a 25% bonus right now through 5/31. So every point used to be worth $.01 Now they are .0125. So a $999 computer would normally require 99,900 points. But now it requires 79,920 points. It's like getting the $999 computer for $799.”

Janet from Georgia wrote: "One way we are saving on food is looking for markdown bakery items at Walmart. I cruise through that section every time I am in the store to look for the yellow mark down stickers! I then bring the items home split them up and freeze them. I then have sweets or bread to pull out of the freezer later.

Barbara L: …I jumped on a $109 cordless vacuum (regularly $300!) from a third-party seller on popular big box stores website, that turned out to be a scam”. She got reimbursed, but warns: "If it sounds too good to be true... just in case, it’s not". This is great advice! If the price feels off, always try to make sure it’s coming straight from the brand or the retailer and not some random third-party seller.
