Here are some recent subscriber submitted money-saving tips:
Diane from Central Florida writes: “If you happen to be a Sam's Club Plus member, you accrue Sam's Cash, which is great! You don't have to use that on your Sam's MasterCard balance or use it on merchandise. Go to Customer Service and ask for the cash - they'll happily comply!!”
Deborah writes: “If you’re buying bags of fruit, specifically citrus fruits, take several bags to a scale and weigh them. You will find great differences in each bag and take the bag with the heaviest. Typically with that you’re going to get more juice or fruit. Every time I get grapefruit I’ll find one bag that is more than a half a pound different than the rest that’s giving me more for my money.”
Trish from FL Writes: : “I have done something that fuels my desire to save money! I write down my savings immediately in my calendar upon returning from the store or ordering online. I total the month, then the year's amounts. This keeps me very motivated! 2020: $2,678.80 ……. 2023: $2,456.44……..2024: $3,645.71

✅ 7 Things You SHOULD Be Buying In August
🥾 Outdoor Footwear:Trail, hiking, and running shoes are seeing some of the steepest markdowns of the year. If you’ve got fall hikes or trips planned, now is definitely the time to buy!
📚 School & Office Supply Bundles: Pens, paper, binders, and planners are at rock-bottom prices right now. I stock up for months ahead during August and avoid paying full price later.
☀️ Sun Care & Skin Protection: SPF lotions, sprays, and even lip balms are heavily discounted to clear summer inventory. I carefully check expiration dates and then stash some for next year.
🎧 Audio & Travel Tech: Earbuds, power banks, and adaptors are getting cleared out before holiday electronics arrive. Now is a great time to upgrade your travel kit without overspending.
🌿 Home Garden Essentials: Planters, patio sets and garden tools are discounted as stores prep for fall stock. Buy now if you want selection… wait for Labor Day if you want the rock-bottom prices.
🍳 Kitchen Basics: Nonstick pans, bakeware, and small appliances are dropping in price. If you’re more interested in top of the line brands like Hex-Clad or Le Creuset, I’d wait for the second Prime Day Amazon typically launches in October.
💺 Home Office Comfort: Laptop stands, chair cushions, and wrist rests are marked down this month. Small upgrades can make working from home a lot more comfortable.

💬 Ask The Deal Guy
Each week, I get dozens of questions from all of you asking where to find deals on certain things and the best times to shop. Instead of just answering each one directly (like I usually do), I thought it could be fun to post my answers in the newsletter for everyone to see!
💡 Karl G asks: "Do you ever see discounts on HOKA brand shoes?”
Hi Karl! While the discounts aren’t always as extreme as I’d like, Hoka Shoes are frequently discounted at Nordstrom Rack. There’s a solid sale right now.
💡 Marcia M asks: “Hi Matt, When do you think patio furniture will go on sale - end of season. I need new chairs, probably metal, my fake wicker is falling apart after about 12 years.”
Hi Marcia, I’m actually impressed you got more than a decade from fake wicker. Absolute best patio sales of the year start August 22 through Labor Day. I would wait.
💡 Hajar A asks: “Can you please share how to save on dressers? And which websites have high-quality dressers that don’t break the budget”
While there are constantly great prices and decent design at stores like Ikea or more traditional furniture stores like Ashley Furniture, I think Macy’s is highly underrated for all types of furniture. I like the dresser sale running right now. Use the code SHOP to save an additional 15%.
