Here are some recent subscriber submitted money-saving tips:

Kat from TX writes: “For Costco, all you need is the item number and your membership card to ask for any price adjustment within a MONTH of purchase. No need for physical or digital receipt. The only time I was denied, was when there was a "negative" number in stock for that product. For Sam’s Club, I’ve found it's way more strict from my experience. You only have 1 WEEK and product has to be brought back untouched to ask for a price adjustment.

Barb from MA writes: “When I purchased a freezer at Home Depot I also purchased a 1 year extended warranty. The sales person told me that if i didn't use it that i could get 1/3 of the cost back at the end of the year.”

Mike from FL Writes: “Every two weeks I buy discounted gift cards at Costco. Restaurants like Domino’s or the more generic Uber Eats gift cards are 20% off face value. It’s an easy way to cut our weekly dining out bill without clipping a single coupon.”

💬 Ask The Deal Guy

To get your question answered, simply respond to this email with any money-saving related question and feel free to include your first name so I can address you properly.

💡 Dan Writes: “Dear Ask the Deal Guy, Is there any reason for a single person dependent on delivery (no car) to join a big-box store like Costco or Sam's Club? Compared to say Amazon or Walmart?”

Hi Dan! Purely on clothing, tech, household essentials you can save a massive amount of money by belonging to a club provided you have some decent storage space for paper products like tissue. I only recommend select warehouse club food buys if you have a larger fridge, especially for the baked goods far exceeding what one person can consume unless you’re able to freeze some of your food finds.

💡 Theresa N AsksWe are looking to furnish our nursery- do you have any cost effective tips on best time of year to purchase furniture? Will need before March.”

Hi Theresa, Having been through this three times, congratulations!!! Really excited for you. The sitewide furniture sales are nearly identical Labor Day, Columbus Day and then Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you want to space your purchases out, there’s no harm doing so. You can also create a registry with many stores to save more cash.

💡Nic Asks: “Which robo vac is currently the best for just vacuuming?”

Hi Nic: While I’ve been impressed with Narwal and Roborock vacs as an all-in-one solution, purely for just a robovac with incredible suction, I’d recommend a Shark Matrix or the iRobot Roomba Max 705.

3 Things NOT to Buy on Labor Day

While there are some amazing reductions happening over Labor Day this year, here are some things I would still avoid.

🕹️ Gaming Bundles and Consoles: In addition to the recent $50+ price hike on the Sony Playstation 5, lower console prices and bundle bargains are their best Black Friday.

📱 New Smartphones: Apple and Samsung releases in September push down older models’ prices after Labor Day buys.

🧥 Fall/Winter Clothing: New season styles are full price now. Bigger discounts come in late fall with the exception being at Sam’s Club and Costco on select items.
