Please note: YMMV on this promotion. While some people report they got accepted right away, I was placed on a “waitlist” until a spot opens up.

This offer could expire at any time, so if you’ve been meaning to stock up on house essentials before Thanksgiving, now’s your chance.

🛒 7 Things That Are Cheaper to Buy Online vs In-Store
🛏️ Mattresses: Direct-to-consumer brands sell online without retail markup. Shipping is free and trial periods make the switch low risk.
📱 Phone accessories: Cables, chargers, and cases are often much cheaper online than in stores. You can save more than 50% without sacrificing quality.
📚 Books: Online shops usually offer better prices on new releases and used copies. E-books can be a bargain compared to physical editions.
🐾 Pet supplies: Autoship discounts and bulk pricing on sites like Chewy or Amazon regularly beat in-store costs for food, treats, and litter.
💊 Vitamins and supplements: Buying in bulk online almost always costs less than grabbing a bottle off the shelf at your local pharmacy.
🎧 Electronics accessories: Items like HDMI cables and USB hubs are marked up in stores. Online, you can grab them for a fraction of the price.
🖨️ Printer ink: You can save a ton by ordering ink bundles or third-party cartridges online. In-store options are usually much more expensive.

Deborah from CA writes: “I'm not sure if you've mentioned this app, so I'll go ahead. I'm sure you're familiar with the Fetch app; I use it before I go shopping every time. Basically, it offers points on popular grocery store items, on-line shops, liquor, restaurants, and a myriad of other items. You take a picture, upload to the app, and the app calculates your pints. Once you reach a certain amount of points, you can redeem the points for gift cards to almost anywhere…. This is a great app for everyone, and especially families with kids.”
Jeff from MN writes: “I always book my hotel reservations by calling the hotel directly, not online or by using their 1-800 number, which often goes to a central reservations service. And I ask for - AND DO THIS EXACTLY, WORD FOR WORD - give them your travel dates, and ask for their BEST RATE AVAILABLE. It is a code phrase for travel agents, airline personnel, meeting planners etc., and get you rock bottom rates. EXAMPLE: A rate from a South Padre Island motel was $153 online, when I called in person asking for their BEST RATE AVAILABLE on my dates, it became $58 per night. *They may ask you for your travel agent number, and you will just say "I do not have one" and they will say okay. You will be shocked at how low the rates will be.”
And in response to last week’s article I wrote about the best performing brands that last you the longest….
Jill S writes: Bosch power tools are high quality and the next best thing is... If a tool needs a certain voltage and a different tool needs the same voltage you can use the same rechargeable battery!
Mary C writes: "I have two Corningware casserole dishes that I got for wedding gifts and we will be married 36 years in August so I know they are the best! Ours are the plain white ones with the fluted sides. One of the few things we still have and use from our gifts.”

🎁 2025 Holiday Return Policy Roundup
Extended holiday return windows are now open! To save you some time and money, here are the new policies in effect for a limited time from the most popular retailers:
Amazon: Items bought between Nov 1 and Dec 31 can be returned through Jan 31, 2026, however any Apple products must be returned by Jan 15.
Walmart: Most purchases from Oct 1 through Dec 31 can be returned through Jan 31, 2026. Electronics may have shorter timelines.
Target: While their exact policy hasn’t been posted yet, last year items bought through Dec 24 are returnable until Jan 24, 2026. Apple and Beats products need to be returned by Jan 8.
Best Buy: While their exact policy hasn’t been posted yet, last year holiday purchases made from Nov 1 through Dec 31 can be returned through Jan 14, 2026. Phones and activation-required items still have a 14-day return period.
Apple: While their exact policy hasn’t been posted yet, last year items bought between Nov 8 and Dec 25 could be returned through Jan 8th the following year. Phones tied to a carrier contract may follow different rules.
Costco and Sam’s Club: No special return extension is offered as most items can be returned anytime. Electronics still follow the standard 90-day window.
Home Depot and Lowe’s: Standard 90-day return policy remains in place. Items like appliances, electronics and special orders have shorter return periods, often under 30 days.

💡 Joanna Asks: “When’s the best time to buy bicycles?"
While you’d think the spring would offer the best bike promotions, year after year, the lowest prices are typically the 5 days that precede Black Friday (and sometimes Black Friday itself) when Walmart launches its multi-day sale that I’ll be covering right here!
💡 Dean S. Asks “When is the best time to buy an all in one desktop computer or a combo desktop with monitor?”
Hi Dean! Your best time for a purchase like this is the lead-in for back to school shopping season where the best promotions are typically the last week of July and first week of August. There is a second round of deals on Cyber Monday, December 1st.
💡Angel from Oregon Asks: “When is the best time to buy dressers and nightstands?”
Angel, I’m sorry to disappoint you but the best time for these purchases is Labor Day, meaning your next opportunity is now a long ways away. However, you will see some decent deals for both dressers and nightstands throughout November. I’d keep an eye on Macy’s and Amazon.
