🚨 NEW Shopping Info You NEED To Know!
📱 Verizon Outage Credit: If you were affected by last week’s Verizon outage, it pays to check your MyVerizon app, as they are issuing a $20 credit to impacted customers.

Some readers mentioned needing to tap a banner inside the app to claim it, so it is worth taking a look. If you don’t see the banner, it may be worth reaching out to Verizon support directly.
🛏️ White Linen Sales Are Live: The annual bedding and towel clearances have officially begun across major retailers.

The best deals right now are at Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy’s, JCPenney. If you want to refresh anything in your bed or bath, this is usually the lowest pricing until Labor Day.
🚆 Almost 50% OFF Amtrak: The price has dropped dramatically on the Amtrak Rail Pass, a fantastic way to explore the country and a great alternative to flying. The USA Rail Pass is now $250 (saving you $249) and it includes 10 separate train segments. The pass is only on sale until tomorrow (and valid for 120 days after purchase).

🛒 Get $20 Amazon Credit on P&G: Amazon released a new essentials promotion. If you buy $80 of participating P&G items, you receive a $20 Amazon credit!

PRO TIP: Combing the Amazon offer with this additional mail in rebate for even more savings (spend $50, get $15 back or spend $20, get $5 back)!

❌ Do NOT Buy These Things Before The Super Bowl
❌ Large TVs: The best Super Bowl TV deals arrive toward the end of January. Waiting a bit longer can save you a lot of cash (warehouse club deals appear the earliest).
❌ Soundbars and Speakers: These often get paired with TV bundles during “Big Game” promotions. Holding off brings better value.
❌ Party Snacks: Grocery stores drop big game day promotions right before the event. Stocking up now means paying full price.
❌ Small Kitchen Appliances: Air fryers, indoor grills, and multi cookers usually see meaningful discounts during Super Bowl weekend.
❌ NFL Team Apparel: Prices fall once teams are eliminated. Waiting a slightly longer means better pricing on the same items.
❌ Winter Clothing: Clearance racks fill near the end of January. Buying this week means missing deeper discounts.
❌ Mattresses and Furniture: The strongest sales arrive around Presidents Day. Waiting gives you lower prices and more selection.

Here are some recent subscriber submitted money-saving tips:
Wendalyn from MD writes: “You mentioned gift planning (in last week’s newsletter). Some grocery stores will offer extra points for their reward program on gift cards. They will say either in the weekly ad or in their app which ones get bonus points that week. As a bonus, you earn some points for money off groceries or gas depending on the grocery store's program.”
Emma from OH writes: “I love the newsletter and your content. I mostly spend $0 on non essential items so I live vicariously through your videos. My savings tip is that I use the Paprika App for meal planning, recipe storage, and grocery lists. It's not a free app but given the cost of food I've saved 100s (maybe 1000s since I've used it since 2019) of dollars using this app. I recommend it to everyone I know.”
Pat writes: “Regarding buying a mattress. I bought one several years ago and it took me several months to do it. I wanted to be sure I go the mattress I wanted at the best price. So my advice to your readers, start shopping now for that mattress. Narrow it down to 2 or 3 models that they like and then get ready for the price shopping. There was a website I followed back then, mattressnerd.com, that gave me a lot of tips on buying a mattress and how to price match”

🤫 Secret Clearance Sales Dropping This January
🏷️ Ross 49¢ Clearance Sale: Ross is gearing up for its once a year end of January clearance where select items drop to only $0.49. Look for pink stickers on home decor, toys, beauty sets, stationery, and leftover holiday items. Early morning visits usually offer the best shot since these tags disappear fast.

Note: This sale is unadvertised and timing varies slightly by store, but this late January window has been consistent the last several years.
🏷️ JCPenney Pink Tag Sale: JCPenney has launched a more muted but highly worthwhile in store clearance where anything with a pink tag is ringing for $5 right now while some stores also show tags as low as $3.

Clothing, accessories, select bedding, and some home items are included. Since it is not heavily promoted online, the racks are better stocked and less picked over. Scanning pink tags at a price checker can reveal additional markdowns.
🏷️ Dollar General 25¢ Event: Dollar General’s annual “quarter” sale is reportedly expected to drop as early as tomorrow as one of the most aggressive holiday clearances in retail. Items that were recently 50% off may drop straight to $0.25.

Gift wrap, candles, decor, small beauty sets, holiday snacks, crafts, and stocking stuffer items tend to move quickly. Checking more than one store can make a big difference because inventory varies widely.
💬 Ask The Deal Guy
To get your question answered, simply respond to this email with any money-saving related question and feel free to include your first name so I can address you properly.
💡The Alexanders Ask: “When is the best time of year to buy a new grill? Ours took a tumble in this Colorado wind and we're looking at that new Ninja grill but curious imitating when to expect grills to generally go on sale.”
Hi Alexander Family! I’m honored to have you as avid viewers and thrilled to know we can agree on Sam’s Club rice cakes 🙂 The absolute best time to buy a grill is Labor Day weekend but assuming you can’t wait, 4th of July reductions are within 10% of Labor Day lows and Memorial Day discounts in May are around 20% higher than Labor Day deals but still better than noting if you absolutely need to make a move.
💡 Linda Asks “Hi, love your emails and videos! I am 72 and need to refinance my home. How can I find the current interest rate and in your personal opinion should I refinance at my age?”
Hi Linda! Great question and thank you so much for the feedback. You can easily check today’s refinance rates (for free) on Bankrate, NerdWallet, or LendingTree. They update daily and show averages from major U.S. lenders.
As for refinancing at 72, age isn’t the issue. What matters is whether a lower rate or lower monthly payment puts you in a better spot. If the savings outweigh the closing costs and you plan to stay in the home, refinancing can still be a smart move.
💡Bobbi asks: “In a previous newsletter, someone asked about a portable CD player for the car. I was thrilled to see the question, but when I clicked on the link, it was a very large stand alone system. Any recommendations for a portable CD player? I really like your videos and recommended them to a few of my friends who are now avid viewers.”
Hi Bobbi! Sorry about that link issue. I found a deal on Amazon and when the product sold out, the seller updated the link to a different product leaving me with no control on my end (as I can’t update links after I generate email the newsletter out). This anti-skip portable from Greadio is the one I’d pick. It has AUX and Bluetooth so it can easily sync with a car stereo."
‼️ BONUS TIP.. for the MANY wonderful people who asked questions about fitness equipment… now is the best time to buy. For furniture and mattresses… President’s Day Weekend (February 10 - 16). For Snow Blowers… first two weeks of March.
